What Does the Bible Say About Drinking?

What does the Bible say about drinking?

According to the Bible, drunkenness is an obvious act of the sinful nature.

"I warn you, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God." (Galatians 5:21)

"Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires." (Galatians 5:24)

"Woe to those who rise early in the morning to run after their drinks, who stay up late at night till they are inflamed with wine." (Isaiah 5:11)

Do you make plans around drinking?  Our lives should not be led by alcohol but by the Holy Spirit.  The bible says, "Since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin. As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead." (1 Peter 4:1-5)

"Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise." (Proverbs 20:1)

"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil. Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine and champions at mixing drinks." (Isaiah 5:20-22)

Do you brag to others how well you make drinks? Do you tell others that you can out drink them?

The bible says, "The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves." (Isaiah 3:9)

"Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbors…" (Habakkuk 2:15)

"Do not join those who drink too much wine, for drunkards become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags."  (Proverbs 23:20-21)
